1. The Discovery of Coffee
It might be a legend, but the story goes that coffee was first discovered by Kaldi, a goat herder in Ethiopia. He noticed that when his goats ate the bean, they became more energetic and did not want to sleep at night.
The legend reports that he disclosed his findings to a local monastery which was delighted to discover that a drink made with the berries allowed them to stay more alert for long evening prayers.
From there, coffee found its way to the Arabian Peninsula and eventually to the West (that is a story for another time).
2. Beethoven’s Coffee (60 Beans)
Did you know that that Beethoven loved his coffee. But he wanted it a certain way…every time! He was so serious about getting it just right that he would always count out 60 beans before making his coffee! I guess that helped him with being creative!
3. Coffee is the 2nd Largest Traded Commodity
I’m sorry to inform you that your coffee is a commodity 🙁 And a popular one, nonetheless. In fact (at least that is what the internet says), It is the world’s second-largest traded commodity. Second only to crude oil. The industry is worth $100 billion worldwide.
There you have it. Beethoven and the Goat Herder in Ethiopia have coffee in common 🙂
